POLYMERS / FUNCTIONAL MATERIALS

Material science.
Purpose-built performance.

Polymer foams, coatings and composite assemblies for fire-response research, healthcare applications, protective packaging and interior comfort.

THE MATERIAL PLATFORM

One research foundation.
Different application needs.

JOL develops functional polymer formulations and surfaces with attention to mechanical response, water repellency, thermal behaviour and durability.

Our research includes compression and tensile studies, microbial assays, flame-exposure demonstrations and packaging trials. Each application needs its own formulation and validation plan.

01 / FLAME-RETARDANT MATERIALS

Formulations for
controlled flame response.

Our work explores modified polyurethane foams and protective coatings. Our research reports self-extinguishing behaviour for modified PUF formulations in demonstration conditions, compared with melting and soot formation in neat PUF.

  • Foam formulation and coating development
  • Comparison of coated and uncoated samples
  • Thermal imaging during exposure

Research demonstrations do not establish a certified fire rating. The final component requires application-specific testing.

02 / HEALTHCARE MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT

Antifungal research.
Hospital cushioning concepts.

Two complementary development areas,
each with its own performance requirements.

LABORATORY RESEARCH

Antifungal polymers

JOL’s programme includes antifungal and antibacterial assay studies as part of broader functional-material development. Formulation, exposure conditions and durability remain central to application selection.

PROPOSED HOSPITAL APPLICATION

Pressure-relief & bed-sore care materials

Polymer cushioning development for hospital mattresses, support surfaces and patient-contact components, with pressure distribution, cleanability and repeated compression as design considerations.

Discuss hospital applications ↗

Hospital applications remain in development. Material studies do not establish clinical effectiveness for bed-sore prevention or treatment; patient-use applications require appropriate safety and clinical validation.

03 / PACKAGING SOLUTIONS

A better fit
for what you protect.

Explore cushioning foams and protective packaging around the shape, mass and handling needs of your product. Our research includes protective-packaging demonstrations and thermal-response studies.

  • Custom cushioning and protective inserts
  • Application-specific foam and coating selection
  • Thermal protection concepts for evaluation
  • Handling and transport validation around the packaged item

04 / SMART INTERIOR MATERIALS

Surfaces that do
more for comfort.

Our interior-material development platform explores heat-reflective finishes, accessible odor-control layers, functional panel laminates and soft-touch assemblies.

  • Heat-reflective coatings for trim and contact surfaces
  • Odor-control finishes and replaceable sorbent inserts
  • Bio-foam backing for cushioning or acoustic needs
  • Component testing for adhesion, ageing and cleaning
